Where is Joigny?
Joigny is located 80 miles southeast of Paris. It lies on the river Yonne. It is built on the side of a hill overlooking the river. The population is 12,000. It is built in a medieval city and has cobbled streets, court yards full of flowers,15th and 16th century buildings and churches,and St.Jean which is a remnant of the original city wall which was strengthened in the year 998 A.D.
The town bridge:
In the town of Joigny, there is great architecture. There is a bridge which is called St.Nicolas. It travels over the l'Yonne River and it is very famous. Recently, it went under reconstruction to make the bridge safer to travel on. Under the bridge tourists see the remains of a bridge gate which was destroyed in 1756 due to the demolition of the south ramparts.

The main church in Joigny is called The Church of Saint Thibault. It was built in the 15th century and is actually where Madeline Sophie was baptized. There are many statues including an equestrian statue of Juan de Juni, a great artist of the Spanish Golden Age. The architecture is a gothic style and is very beautiful.
