Madeleine
Sophie founded her first convent and school in Amiens. Amiens is a
city in northern France on the Somme River. It is the capital of
Somme, a department in the region of Picardie. The city was a center
of the Ambiani Gauls, and its name was derived from it. Later, Amiens
was a Roman settlement and even later it was a major fortress. It was
Christianized in the 4th century by the first bishop, St. Firmin.
Amiens (known in pre-Roman times as Samarobriva) is known for its
beautiful Church of Saint Germain. It was built in the 15th century.
It has been a center for the textile market since the 16th century.
Other major manufacturers in Amiens are machinery, metal goods,
tires, chemicals and perfumes (this is France after all). The city
was a center of the Ambiani Gauls, and its name was derived from it.
Later, Amiens was a Roman settlement and even later it was a major
fortress. As of 1999, the population was 135,501
people.

As
the Society of the Sacred Heart spread throughout France, it absorbed
a community of Visitation nuns in Grenoble in 1804.
Grenoble is the capital of the department of Isere. At the foot of Mount Rachais in the French Alps, the city is divided into two unequal parts by the Isere River. A university was founded here in 1339, however Grenoble became an important educational center only at the beginning of the 20th century. In the 4th century it was named Gratianopolis, in honor of the Roman emperor Gratian. The town has numerous industries including paper, rubber, cement, and plastic manufacturing.

Madeline Sophie founded a school in Brussels after the French Revolution. Located
in the valley of the Senne River, Brussles is the capital of Belgium. It was
founded in 979 and the first written confirmation of its existence was dated
977. Brussels is surrounded by Flemish territory and historically a mainly Dutch-speaking
city.Today, Belgium is a predominantly Roman-Catholic country. St. Madeline
Sophie's body is found here in Brussels.

Saint
Madeleine Sophie had her main school in Poitiers. She had a school
and a monastery in Poitiers. She prayed to Saint Estéve to
help her build the school, because many women in Poitiers wanted to
come to study in her schools and monasteries.
Saint Madeleine Sophie and Saint Philippine Duchesne were friends who teamed up to help create schools for women. She had a hard life in Poitiers, but her determination saved many women.
