Stuart Hall First Grade

In the first grade, students are exposed to numerous software programs that help create and reinforce problem solving skills in a variety of curricular areas. They write stories, make illustrations and problem solve in conjunction with classroom activities and assignments. The students use their knowledge of letters and sounds to make approximate spellings. Allowing inventive spelling encourages the students to use a large vocabulary in their writing.

In first grade, the students work on letters and sounds. For this activity, the boys looked for stamps in KidPix that match the letter sounds.

In this example, the first graders had to copy and paste Halloween images to create addition problems and number stories.

Here the boys practiced counting pennies, nickels and dimes. They copied and pasted images of different coins and wrote a sentence telling what they bought for that amount.

These are some of the first graders New Year's Resolutions.

For this project, the boys explored a Website about the rainforest, copied images from the Web and found information about two different animals.
