History II is designed for sophomores as part of an integrated
two-year history course beginning with History I freshman
year. Topics covered in History II include: Absolutism,
the Age of Reason, the French Revolution, Industrialization,
Imperialism, and both World Wars. The class also covers
the cultural and historical backgrounds of major non-Western
areas of civilization including: Africa, China, India and
the Middle East.
The overarching theme of History II is how the political,
economic, religious, and social structures impact a civilization.
The hope is students will be better equipped to understand
and engage in dialogue regarding current events through
understanding the event's historical context.
Key skills stressed in History II are the continued development
of analytical reasoning, persuasive writing, public speaking,
and interdisciplinary research. |
