Speaker Series Welcomes Jim Steyer, Common Sense Media - October 24, 2007 |
Please join our community in welcoming children's advocate Jim Steyer, the inaugural lecturer in our Convent & Stuart Hall Speaker Series. Jim has 20 years experience as a media professional and is often tapped as an expert by The New York Times, Newsweek, The Today Show, and The Oprah Winfrey Show to discuss issues of children and the effects of the harmful images they see every day.
Jim will share common sense tips on how best to combat the troubling media messages your children face, in a talk entitled Educating our Kids in a New Media World. He will share important facts, such as: more kids spend time watching TV or surfing online than they do at school or with their parents; half of all teens who start smoking do so because they see such images in the media; and children see 40,000 commercials a year on television.
Please join us on Wednesday, October 24, at 5:30 p.m. in the Syufy Theater, to hear from Jim Steyer and participate in this important discussion. You may RSVP to rsvp@sacredsf.org.
